Hey Guys, With the positive reviews of G-out plans are started for making a short half mile connector from kona to the single track climb that parallels the fire road climb. this will open up more single track loop options and could make for a heck of a ride if you link everything together. Randy and I have been scouting some options and I will be out to break ground friday 4/2/10 attached is a google kmz file with the proposed route. If anyone has any ideas or preferable the ability to come out and help built it would be greatly appreciated. keep riding guys hope to see you out on the trail!

Ok I am in but next week is tough with my kid out of school. The week of April 12th is good for me...the other option is for you to start it like last time and get me fired up to finish it. I cant stop once I start!
Lemme know...
need all hands on deck if you want to bang this out in a couple of weeks.

Well day one is in the book BIG thanks to BUD for coming out and helping to get started. For half a day we did a pretty good little bit of building. Attached is the furthest point so far which will give you an idea of what is to come. Today 2 people for roughly 3 hours of cutting. You will easily be able to see the trail when riding up Kona it will be on your left. Possible build day thursday mid morning.

Another half day in the books Did ALOT of brush clearance, but it went pretty quickly and we have a nice flow started for sure. This saturday I will be heading out for a few hours in the morning not sure of the time exactly yet but somewhere around 9-12. We have a few tools at the trailhead all we really need are people to work them. let me know if you are interested and i will work out a meeting place. If you look at the markers i have attached our second days point you can see that two people with a few hours and get a lot done with 4-5 or more we can really start moving through this and hopefully get this trail finished and ready to break in by months end.

Going out in Tuesday around 2 pm. Meet at corrals and pedal in for another day of manual labor.
Need help.
If Tom and I do this we should finish in about six total build days.
If Bud helps (maybe 7)wink
come on guys. All hands on deck. This is much easier than g out and we need to finish it before it gets too hot to work.
Call me if u can help.

I'll try to make next Tuesday...I have a DR appt. at 2:00, so I should be able to get out there around 3:15 - 3:30 depending on how quickly I actually get to see the doctor.

Ran into Jimmie Mac from mtba at los rocos mexican joint in castaic today after we rode to check out the progress of the last two hours i missed yesterday. Man...Tom and Chris made huge progress. Now it is creek clearing time for appx. .25 miles. No tools needed. Just break and pull our way ahead.
Tuesday is big build day but if anyone can go out before and just clear the creek ahead the branches just pull out of the soft ground as it is mostly dead. A small hand saw may be needed if you want to bring one. I would be great to make more progress before we all get out there next tuesday. I told Jimmie to put the word out to people for help. Three days max if we all show up and pitch in. Lets make it happen before it gets too hot and it stops raining for 10 months!

Posting a picture of the proposed trail so you can get an idea of what we are trying to do.
After finishing point we connect to existing trails. We can cut a new second single trac in toward the top later so we dont have to take the last bit of fireroad ridge before the towers.

As tom stated...super sloppy riding out but it created a fun memory for sure.
Thanks to:
Tom Schuler
Dan Cole
Tony Arnold
Mike Dunn
We got alot done today.
If we have the same number of people next time we could possibly finish in one day. If not two at max!
I will bring out the gas powered weed wacker. I may try to get a blade adapter for it like Dan said.
Does anyone know if the army/navy surplus store is still open in old newhall?
Dan broke my shovel again...note to everyone...dont let dan near your tools, he broke my hand saw and now my shovel...he is a brute!

I will post pics later tonite of the build.
