Some of us AV guys are riding GE tomorrow 2/15.  We're leaving Lancaster at 9:00 a.m. and will be at the Sandberg trailhead at about 9:45.  So if any of you have the day off or want to just take it off, come on out and ride.  Probably a little snow and mud but the weather will be great!

Well, the weather was great!  The trail was too; just much more snow than I expected up on the top even on the fs road.  Muddy, melting snow and still icy in the shade on the road.  We didn't even go to the end of the trail (top at the big oak tree) because the north side was solid snow from 3 to 6" that we could see.  So we didn't ride the top 1 mile section and started down the trail on the south side.  There were still many patches of soft snow.  Most could be ridden through without much trouble but some of the longer (10 yds +) ones brought the wheels to a dead stop.  The trail sections free of snow were great with excellent traction.  There were some ruts but not bad at all.  The lower 3 miles were snow free, damp and fast.  The trail needs major brush clearance though as soon as possible!  We should get something together on this site, mtbr and otb to get a big trail work day on GE in March or April.  The climb up the fs road was better than average with the cool temps, mostly calm wind and almost total sunbaked hardpack to ride on; until we got to the large snow patches at the top!  It was worth doing but I'll wait until the real spring thaw for the next one; and bring my loppers and hopefully a few dozen fellow riders to cut back the brush!
