I would imagine there's a ton of snow there. probably not rideable for rest of winter unless we get a heat wave.
Last week the FS acess road was only cleared to Sanberg monument, if that gives you idea of things up there.

Oh well figured I would ask!...We did La Tuna anyway!..man what a blast that trail is! wav

I even got to try the old "5 Dollar Bill" to repair a ripped sidewall on another riders bike! angel

....I have been waiting like 20 years to try that one, carring two 5's just for the occasion!  sunny

I am glad to report that YES that trick does work!..The young rider was amazed & I in all my infinite "McGyver/boyscout/why am i carrying all this stuff" shocked stood back proud that I could get the young fellow on down the trail!  occasion14

Why not use a dollar bill and keep the $4 for yourself...
I went to frazier park last weekend with the kids and snow in town so it is pretty low...
and La Tuna is 90% fireroad climb and descent...how can that be fun?

...BECAUSE that incredible single track, with a little running water right next to the 210 is like a hidden jewel in a sea of concrete!

...PLUS I NEVER ride fireroad down hill anymore and that too reminds me of my beginning years of mountain biking (before suspension was invented!)..I knew nothing of single track and would ride to the top of Mt.Wilson, Mt Lukens, Mt. Lowe...bombing back down the fire roads!....I never heard of single track back in 1987!!..Then I met Cliff on a performans ride(that went on a fireroad! ride off Copperhill....again before suspension.

Now leave me alone and let me enjoy a "rare" bombing of a fireroad into/onto some insane pristine singltrack amiidst the madness of todays society! heh-heh..I am teasing...well sorta! angel ha-ha!  occasion14

Oh and I am 1/2 eyetalian and putting a five dollar bill in the guys tire makes me feel better!.."See that guy over there?..He owes me!"..it's easier to say when it's a five spot AND he will always remember ..better n a cheezy one dollar bill!  wink Wish I could have afforded a 20 spot! heh-heh(actiully I thought it would have been a 20 in my stash...I was glad it was only a fiveski haaaaaaaaaaa! occasion14

Hey Matt,

JFYI Randy wouldn't know a sweet trail if it jumped up and endo'd him in the face.

The FR on La Tuna is a great throw back from the past pre suh-spended and for me that was 1997 (one of those true believer hold outs, Gary Fisher HKII, full rigid i bought new in '86ish).

And you are right, short and sweet as it is, the La Tuna ST is a very cool gem in an unexpected place!  Just wish it were 5 times longer to justify the drive.  Merrils to Sunset to El Prieto is just down the road, filled with non-stop sweetness...or...ummm...until the fires that is.

Hey Matt...Rule #1 is dont listen to Dan.
Rule #2...see rule #1

I would have taken that five spot and made it into four singles. This gives you two options:
You can help five people instead of one...or you can give that guy with the flat the extra $4 and tell him to buy a good tire and tube combo..or better yet get stans..

now on to the real issue of fireroad up - then fireroad down...too .125 miles of nice singletrac to a 1 mile road climb back....
I agree with Dan, it was a great trail in the past but since Dan introduced me to the Gabriels nothing else even comes close.
You should try Chantry Flats if you get a chance. There is nothing flat about it.
99.9% hillside shaded singletrack with great views and some stream crossings thrown in. You wont find any un-prepared riders on the better loops...or at least you shouldn't....but you can still carry your five spot just in case...
Also make sure you check out our new trail g-out in charlie/tapia canyon we just completed.
It is a forum topic on clipd in..
cheers...Yeturner occasion14

Chantry is a lot of fun, however, considerably more technical, & seems like I always run across hikers on the lower section.
I like La Tuna, but that pavement pedal back up to the car is really risky, hardly any where to avoid traffic at spots..
New trail at tapia is awesome, hope it didn't get too killed from the rains.

I'd like to extend a big thank you Randy & Dan for the tremendous amount of work you guys put into that. smiley

no problemo..dan built two bridges by bear hugging rocks....maybe that is why he has back problems.
Tom Schuler is the one who really deserves credit for sticking it out with me building during the week when no one else was available.
I went to g-out monday and tuesday and fixed all the little landslides.
it is perfect now...but rain is due again next weekend.
Only thing i may fix is a metal bridge at the top of trail.
It flexes when soft as it is built on sticks and a plastic half pipe.

Well I got my 5 dollar bill back today at church & a NEW TUBE...HEH-HEH! next DAY SERVICE AT SERVICE NOT BAD!

Now are you two serious about the single track being so short? I guess I don't feel that way as I look at the ride as a whole. I personally am way spoiled! I will choose a fireroad up and sigletrack down all the time. I like that for some odd reason. Golden Eagle-Fire Road up...any of the San Gabrials same thing. And I have done all those trails over there all before suspension!

Had a Klein back in "the day" and I wish I still had it! I should have NEVER sold that thing! (Although I did crack the frame 2 times!..they would just give you a new one! grin)

Oh well ...Ride On Boys...Ride on!!!!!!!! occasion14

I used to be that way about FR up and ST down,  But for some reason ST up just seems easier and less monotonous nowadays.  icon_blackeye

I love the ST climb on Golden Eagle, It is a great climb right from Sandburg, makes the ride 99.999% ST suhweetnes!

And climbing the Merrills, groomed, beautiful trail with something like 28 switchbacks for your lung bursting enjoyment...doesn't get much better than that.  blob8

Like you said tho!
Ride On!!! and it doesn't matter where, Just Ride On!!!
