Don't know if anyone from this board had the opportunity to participate in the inaugural Castaic Lion's Charity Mountain Bike race, however, we are in the early stages of planning our next event that should be held at the Jack Bones Equestrian Center on Tapia Canyon Rd in Castaic and I'm looking for suggestions on how to make the event better.  Here are some general items that need to be addressed:

1.  Schedule - when do you think would be a good time to run the event.....we don't want to compete with other large events
2.  What is the most important factor when deciding to participate in a charity event....cost, course layout, entertainment after the event....let me know.
3.  The distance for last years "race' was approximately 13.5 miles with some hard climbs....is that too far or not far enough for a race...

Last year we had 40+ racers, and a handfull of riders that only did the "ride" portion (for beginners...fireroad only) of the event, and this year we want to try to double the number of riders.

Any other suggestions or comments are welcome !

THANKS

The Tapia Canyon Classic Moutain Bike Charity Race is going to be held on June 26th (Sat.) at the Jack Bones Equestrian Center on Tapia canyon.  All funds will go the Castaic Lion's club which is a nonprofit organization, and the funds will be used to help others in the Castaic area.  The event includes the Lion's legendary Tri-Tip and chicken, followed by a concert.  Last years band was the Knuckleheads, and we are currently in negotiations to bring them back this year.  A website dedicated to the event will be up shortly and will have all of the information regarding the event.  Flyers are also in process and will be available at many local bike shops.

Shoot me a PM if you're interested in volunteering for the event, or if you have questions or comments.

Hope you guys (and gals) will come support the event.

THANKS

Friend every rider you can find on face book with race info. Promote at least once a week with all event info & pics from last race. You may want to contact Dorothy Wong..... she promotes all kinds of race events really well. Ck out "So. Cal. Cross" on face book.
This was a fun event, if promoted well it will attract a huge crowd & make some good cash for charity.

Event information is now on Facebook....search TAPIA CANYON CLASSIC.

Did talk to Dorothy and she was a world of help...THANKS for the advise.

I'll attach a DRAFT copy of the flyer with all of the necessary information within the next day or two.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have questions.

Attached is a copy of the 2010 TAPIA CANYON FLYER......

I know it's not perfectly clear, but I'm working on making a better copy.

Flyers will soon be available at most SCV bike stores.
