5-Deer needs help!
« on: March 02, 2008, 05:13:33 PM »

I rode 5-Deer yesterday in the fog!  The trail surface is in great shape but the overgrowth and broken branches are out of control!  I was doing pushups on the handlebars to get low enough to clear some and had to dismount about 6 times when the branches were too low and too thick to ride through.  At one point just past that shady oak grove about a mile from the Artesian Camp, there are major scrub oak branches that block the trail for about 12 ft.  Motos have made a detour that still requires a dismount.  In other spots, the motos have powered around the brush to make that real nice terraced effect on the trail.  Looks like all the snow the ridge has received this winter has broken the branches over the trail.

So how about another work/ride day on 5-Deer?  I'm available anytime after Easter weekend except the weekend of 4/19.  Maybe we could do a vehicle shuttle with a crew starting from the top down and another working up from the Artesian.  A chain saw would be great for that jungle near the oak grove.  Is anybody up for it?  Is anybody riding anymore?  Is anybody out there?

I think that is a good idea. We rode Golden Eagle on motos yesterday and I have never been so bush wacked in my life. We need at least 7 guys with saws and power cutters to make it happen in short order. We can probably bang it out in 4 hours or so if we all have cutting instruments.
