Acorn Trail Wrightwood 7/17
« on: July 16, 2007, 01:37:53 PM »

I'm going to ride the Acorn Trail loop which starts and ends in Wrightwood on Tues. 7/17.  It's about a 15 mile loop with other options for more singletrack possible.  Acorn itself is about 2 miles of narrow, steep switchbacks and other fun stuff.  If any of you are interested, we could meet at the Palmdale park and ride so you don't have to drive the whole way. Early is probably better but not ludicrously early!   Let me know asap.  Sorry for the short notice!

It was great!  The trail was in great shape.  There was one 20ft long log about 3ft diameter that had fallen over one of the switchbacks.  Hikers had cut a path to go around it that was too loose and tight to ride.  So I used a big branch as a lever and was able to move the log further down the mountainside to restore the original switchback!

The temp. was mid to high 70's up at the top with a nice breeze.  High 80's in Wrigtwood at the end of the ride.  I went up hwy 2 to Blue Ridge Road then up and over to Acorn.  With some additional options, I did almost 18 miles with 6.5 miles of singletrack.  This is really a great trail.  Let me know if you want to ride it sometime!
