I would be interested in joining the ride if it were the following weekend, April 7th or 8th. I've heard a lot about the trail and would like to ride it someday.

Do you really go down hill faster if you shuttle?

« Reply #3 on: March 23, 2007, 06:12:29 AM »

I could probably make it on the 31st. The 1st is my anniversary so that would probably not go over with the wife to well. I say maybe leave earlier at 5:30 if we need to go out to Redlands.

YES!!  YES!! YES!!!!  It is rare that I can have an entire day free (and for biking, for that matter!), but Saturday works perfectly for me.  I already cleared it with the wife, so I'm in, barring any unforeseen circumstances.  Keep us posted and hope others can join in!

so you could drive back in an hour, or ride back in an hour and a half?    seems like riding is way to go......

Yeah...BUT

With the Shuttle you get to ride 8-9 more miles of ST (25-26 miles of nearly all Single Track)

On the Out-n-Back you ride up the same 15-16 miles that you ride down.

Also the Hour turn around time for the shuttle return is a worst case guesstamate, its a 36 mile round trip.

When you put it that way then there is no other option than to shuttle. Let's try to coordinate it this week.

Weather is Supposed to be Sunny Tomorrow through the rest of the Weekend.

In the mid 70's on Saturday

What little snow will just make the trail that much sweeter!!!

What's the latest on the carpool/shuttle situation?  If we don't have the capacity for the shuttle option, I'm game for the out-and-back.  I have a small car so I'll need to ride with someone, and i'll gladly pitch in for the gas.  I'll be at SFR at 5:30a.

Head Count: 7-10

Me, Calvin, OV, John Long, Randy, Rodney, Jose Soto

Scottay?  Kevin?  Fadi?

Who can Drive? and How many bikes/people in each vehicle?

Randy will drive (Honda Odyssey) -  5 peeps/6 bikes

Any one else?  I can fit 5 peeps (tight for a long drive) and 8 bikes ( I have a hitch rack for 4 bikes, if I dont drive )

We will need a third car for shuttle return.  No Need for bikes on that car.

From everything I have heard/read about this ride...The Shuttle route is the way to go, Longer-Sweeter-Sections

If all else fails the O/B is a great ride as well!!!!

It's short notice but I'm in!  If it doesn't cause a problem, I'd like to meet you at the bottom of the shuttle run rather than drive from Lancaster to Santa Clarita.  Where exactly is the bottom?  I can be the return to the top vehicle after the ride.  I can bring my truck if needed but if not, I'll drive the Honda.  I'm guessing you'll be at the bottom about 7:00 a.m. but let me know when you expect to arrive.  OV from Palmdale!  If you want, I can pick you up on the way and take 138 and 15 into Redlands and then up to the meeting area.  I'll e-mail you.

I've done the upper part (above Angeles Oaks) a couple times but not the whole trail below AO.  Let me know if this plan will work.

That would be great, Honda would work...Just need to take the drivers back to their cars.

I will post a map for the parking at the bottom of the trail, where we would meet in the AM.

Just to be sure, is this place the Thurman Flats picnic area?  I'll be there 7:30ish but I'm with scottay about the 5:30 departure! That's early!  You guys must want to be back for most of the final 4!

Maddog,

I dont know the Name of the place at the bottom of the trail where we will meet in the AM is.

But it is 2.2 miles from the intersection of Mill Creek and Bryant St
Google map from Bryant St to the Dirt Lot on the left side (south) of Mill Creesk Rd  Click on the Satelite view and you will see the dirt lot.

Did you get ahold of OV.

Space wise in cars it would be best if you guys go out together!!!!  PM me if you need OV cell #

Looks pretty close to Thurman on the FS map.  I'll be there!  My cell (if I remember to bring it) is 661-810-4240.  Have not heard from OV so you can pm me his cell #.  Space is an issue?  I won't have to hang on to the roof holding my bike on the way to the top will I?  I am bringing my truck anyway because my daughter wants the Honda tomorrow.  It's a silver Chevy with shell.

Space is an issue for comfort on a 2 hour drive, not so bad for a 30 min drive!!!

Looks like 11-12 people.  Still have not heard from Jose Soto
