Meet at the Park and Ride at the Pearblossom Hwy/Angeles Forest Hwy exit off the 14 fwy at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday 11/19/06.  13-20 miles and even more available.  Toughest climb is up to Burkhardt Saddle but it's fun going back down!  I have a truck and can take 4 more people and bikes up to the Punchbowl so the SCV guys don't have to drive the whole way.

embarassed Maddog, Guys. I'm really sorry. Can't attend this time either. My wife just informed me that we're having out of town company that day. Maybe, if you're up to it we can do it on Thanksgiving day, if not on Sun 11/26/06. Really sorry. tickedoff

No problem.  I have a wife too who acts as my social planner.  It's their world; we're just livin' in it!  Thanksgiving's no good for me but 11/26 should be good.

Either one is O.K. with me.  If you're planning to do some work on 5-Deer that day, then let's do 5-Deer.  Burkhardt will eventually have some snow on it but maybe not until next winter the way things are looking!  Seriously, Punch/Burk should still be snow-free for several weeks so that one could wait in order to finish the brush clearing on 5-Deer.

well i gotta work sunday and dont really wanna waste ride time doing trail work.  But  if we had four guys with loppers/saws we could do it in 30 mins, or 8  guys could do it in 15!     Its about half way up the ST that needs the most work, so you could get a good four miles of climbing before doing the cutting.

I'm just a lurker so it's your call man!  I can strap a lopper and machete on my Camelbak to be one of the 4 or 8.  Mysticrythms wants to do Punch/Burk on the 26th but I don't want to miss another work day on 5-Deer.  I'm good with just riding 5-Deer so you can get to work and saving the brush clearance for later.

You sound definate on this thread about 5 Deer on Thanksgiving!  I should have read this first.  I'll be there with machete and loppers.  I got the time (7:30 right?) but where?  The OTB guys showed me a little singletrack that starts at Bouquet and Spunky Cyn.  We parked at that corner (a little ways up Spunky) and rode from there.  If anything changes, let me know.  In case it falls through for Thurs.  I can still do it on Sunday.

there's a fireroad  right by the resevoir, may even have a "nature pass" sign there.  go up that road  about a block and there's a clearing that will hold about 10 cars, park there.   this is where PCT meets the FR, and may connect to your spunky cyn. trail.
Unless you machete is really sharp, the bushes will just laugh at it.  Loppers and saws worked best last time.   Maybe even hedge trimmers in some spots!
