Any Takers? Monday Feb 20th.
An epic trail after the rain! Monday is a holiday.
The Kern Canyon River Gap Trail.  Sixteen miles to the top, 100% single track. 100% traction, the best trail around to do after the rain.
Is anyone interested in an all day adventure? This is epic trail, taylor made for a post rain ride. If anyone is interested please let me know. Meet at Noah's Bagel in Stevenson Ranch at 7a.m. Carpool to the trail, about a 2 hour drive. An all day adventure... an epic!!

Sounds interesting...whats the altitude?  You thinkk the 2500' snow level might be a factor?

Starting point is around or just under 2000 feet. Snow..? Bueno!! Adventures are good... The River Trail is an alternative if the snow gets too deep... Epic it will be.

Updated Sunday @ 2:00. Dan is in and driving, Rob is in and can drive. Possible attendees; Ryan, Ted, Ian, Patrick, Nate? Mike Knoll & Scott Sampon are meeting us at the trail head.  The conditions should be perfect, cool weather with moisture in the terra firma. I'm bringing cold weather clothing for the top. I'm also bringing a lunch in my Camelbak for enjoying the time at the top.
This will be an Epic ride.

Oh Ya, the bike needs a good bath.  It snowed on us, but it wasn't that cold, actually had to take clothes off.  Nothing like that 28o Golden Eagle Ride.  The trail was in great shape just a few short sections of mud, not the greasy stick to your tires kinda mud, but the slippery hold on and keep a straight line kinda mud.  It was a great ride.
We gotta get back there and check out the rest of the trails.

Looks like you guys had a great time.  I have ridden this trail many times but I have never ridden it up and back.  You guys are animals.  I was riding in the same area on Monday.  I saw some of your tracks.  How high up did you hit snow?  How much did you have to deal with?   Thanks

Patches of snow on the top 1/2 of the climb,  Only hit snow in the trail near the top, or Just below the fireroad up top.  What route did/do you normally take

We usually do it as a shuttle ride and we start at Shirley Meadows.  It makes for a fun ride.

I WANT to ride!

« Reply #14 on: March 01, 2006, 06:04:59 PM »

WOW...I am green or is it "brown" with envy! That is a ride I have wanted to do 4 years! I did Canal last June & that ride tore me up just coming downhill..of course it was not all downhill but man THE PLUNGE is also a great ride, but I could NEVER do it as a loop. It was not too expensive for the ride to Sherman Pass from Kernville! Yep I'd do that again also!  occasion14 wav wav occasion14
